The YWCA of Hawaii Island will honor retired Hilo pediatrician Dr. Ruth Matsuura and Prosecuting Attorney Charlene Iboshi at its annual Remarkable Person Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at the YWCA’s Ka Hale Hi’ilani Hall on Ululani Street in Hilo.
The YWCA of Hawaii Island will honor retired Hilo pediatrician Dr. Ruth Matsuura and Prosecuting Attorney Charlene Iboshi at its annual Remarkable Person Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at the YWCA’s Ka Hale Hi‘ilani Hall on Ululani Street in Hilo.
“The YWCA is committed to recognizing the outstanding leadership and service of those who help make our community a better place in which to live,” said YWCA Board President Jennifer Tanouye.
“We are proud to honor these two remarkable women who have worked tirelessly on behalf of women, children and families in our community.
We invite the community to join us at this, our signature fundraising event, in support of the YWCA and our programs,” said Tanouye.
Matsuura and her late husband, the former state Sen. Richard Matsuura, moved to
Hilo in 1971 with their six children after serving as Presbytarian missionaries to India for 10 years.
A graduate of the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco, Matsuura served the Hilo community from 1971 until her retirement from pediatrics in 2005.
Iboshi is Hilo-born and raised. After graduating from the University of Puget Sound School of Law, she was hired as a deputy prosecutor for Hawaii County in 1980 and has served as a career prosecutor for more than 30 years.
Iboshi has been the prosecuting attorney for Hawaii County since April 2011. She is married to retired attorney John Wagner.
Tickets to the luncheon are $50.
